If you're visiting Granada City, the ideal accomodation would be the Parador at Granada. This parador was formerly a convent and
is located right in the Alhambra itself. Antique Spanish furniture equips all rooms and an old roofless chapel forms a courtyard.
Rooms go fast so you have to book early. We weren't early enough and we tried 8-10 weeks ahead.
There are plenty of other
places you can stay however, but be prepared to walk a great deal. Driving about Granada is difficult enough but the best way to
see Granada or most Spanish cities is on foot anyways.
Granada was indeed the crowning glory of the old Moorish Kingdom, and today, when you step onto the cobbled sidewalks, stroll along
historic roads like the Carrera del Darro, past beautifully restored buildings and churches, you are indeed stepping into history.
The preservation of what's old in Granada is so good that at times, it blends in with the hustle and bustle of a modern city so that
you can get a cab to drop you off at a curbside, take ten paces and you're in Alcaiceria, the old market. It's not difficult to imagine
how much alike life back then would have been and that's the magic of Granada.
