WebAperture's Acceptable Photo Posting Policy

Revised June 05, 2006

We are posting this to make clear what photos are acceptable and what should not be posted. Failure to adhere to this policy is grounds for removal of your photos and/or your member access. Administrator actions are FINAL and NON-NEGOTIABLE.

Some uncertainty abounds about our no-nude policy and while in some cases, partial nudity done in a certain way is acceptable, some have brought up the fact that some non-nude photos could also be unacceptable. THIS SUBJECT IS A SOURCE OF ENDLESS TROUBLE FOR US HENCE THIS POLICY.

Firstly, we know that the human body is an art form and believe that nudes and the human body do have a place in photography BUT NOT ON WEBAPERTURE. If you wish to be a member and continue to post photos YOU MUST ABIDE BY THIS POLICY - NO EXCEPTIONS.

A simple rule of thumb might be if a photo wouldn't be seen in a billboard or newspaper advertisment, then, chances are, it wouldn't be appropriate to post it on WebAperture. This rule of thumb again is just a guideline.

Also note that a photo may convey intent or suggest ideas that might be pornographic in nature so they too should be avoided. We're not against nudes per se (long-timers will recall that we had a 'nude' category) but with the fine line between nude and porn blurred by individuals, cultures and geography, it isn't worth the trouble.

IT IS CLEAR THAT SOME ARE NOT CLEAR ON THIS ISSUE AND ASSUME THE LIST BELOW IS COMPLETE. So if you insist on continously posting borderline photos, you will also get your access revoked. The following are examples only and do not constitute a complete list of what's NOT acceptable:

  • Full frontal, side, whatever nudity
  • Silhouetted forms where nudity is visible or implied
  • Suggestive poses, implied pornography
  • Creative masking, shadowing, pixelation on images/photos with nudity/implied pornography/etc
  • Contains racial, religious prejudice and/or is offensive to people of a certain race and/or religion.
  • A fully digital manipulated image where NONE of the sources are your own photographic work.
  • Content depicting hate or malice towards minorities, religion, etc.
  • Copyrighted material posted without permission
  • Threatening, vulgar, harmful content

YOUR PHOTO MAY ALSO BE REMOVED IF THE COMMENTS HAVE BEEN DEEMED INAPPROPRIATE.

Complains on photos are evident of how the rest of the WebAperture members feel about the content. While complains can be overuled by WA administrators, continued complaints via the complain system, feedback or email will result in a photo removal.

If you have any thoughts on this issue, you are welcome to send us feedback.

p.s. This POLICY WILL NOT BE RELAXED so do not waste our time and yours

Thank you for your time.
